The last AGM of Skibbereen Tidy Towns was held in the Eldon hotel on 14 November 2019. Digital alternatives to convene an AGM in subsequent years were not available to all current members, hence the delay until 2023. As a result, there was a lengthy agenda to get through and much to report. This post offers a summary of key points from the meeting held in the Eldon hotel on Wednesday, 15 February, 2023.
Two weeks’ notice of the 2023 AGM was published in the Southern Star and on social media channels, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. As there was no secretary present at the last AGM, formal minutes were not available. The Chair, Jerome Dwyer, welcomed everyone to the meeting and presented his report, outlining the work undertaken by the group in the past three years, subject to public health guidance. He thanked a diverse list of individuals and groups, across public and private sectors for their support that is more essential than ever since the drop-off in Tuesday evening volunteer numbers since the COVID-19 pandemic.
John Hamilton presented the Treasurer’s report with details of revenue and expenses during the period. Bryan Harris provided a report on behalf of the Friends of the Rock sub-committee and Sandra Flynn provided a chronology of the project from 2009 to 2022 that was included in the 2022 entry for the national Tidy Towns competition. It was agreed that this chronology would be published as a blog post so that anyone interested could see the progress of the project to this point.
The Joint Secretary’s report was presented by Susan Boland, and the Digital Communications Officer’s report by Sandra Flynn. Francis Hunt, PRO, offered his apologies in advance of the meeting since a prior scheduled conflict prevented his attendance.
